What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site function, remember your preferences, and provide usage information.
How eConsent Uses Cookies
Essential Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the Services to function and cannot be disabled.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
econsent | Session authentication for logged-in users | 24 hours |
connect.sid | Server session identifier | Session |
Analytics Cookies
We use analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website and to improve the Services.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| PostHog cookies | PostHog | Product analytics — page views, feature usage, anonymized interaction data | 1 year |
Cookies Set by Our Consent Tracking Script
When our Customers deploy the eConsent tracking script on their websites, the following cookies are set on the consumer’s browser to manage the consent session:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
econsent_session | Unique session identifier linking the consumer’s form interaction to a consent record | 24 hours |
econsent_session_created | Timestamp of when the consent session began, used for session expiration | 24 hours |
econsent_certificate | Certificate identifier stored after consent is captured, used to associate the certificate with the consumer’s session | 1 hour |
These cookies are set as first-party cookies on the Customer’s domain (not on econsent.org). They are used solely for consent session management and are not used for tracking, advertising, or cross-site identification.
The script also uses localStorage and sessionStorage on the Customer’s page for session persistence across page navigations. This data contains only session identifiers and timestamps — no PII is stored in browser storage.
Third-Party Cookies
Our website may include third-party content (such as embedded videos or social media links) that may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies. Please refer to the respective third party’s cookie policy for details.
